Anterior Pelvic Tilt: The Epidemic That Is Causing Bulging Stomachs And Back Pain
27 years ago I was a young boy standing next to my mother on a balcony in Poland and my life was about to change forever..
I remember looking out at the historic city of Gdansk, and being awe struck by it's castles and giant cranes sticking out of the shipyard.
But my mother was looking at something much smaller.
She points out a clearly disabled man, walking with a limp, his hip sticking out behind him and his back bent.
My mother, who is always looking for opportunities to build up my self-esteem, says:
"This is how you walk"
Why would she say that? I don't know.
Maybe she was joking.
Or maybe she wanted to shock me so I would fix my posture and walk better.
But her efforts backfired. Instead I internalized:
This is who I am. I have bad posture. I walk funny. I am not athletic.
And as I grew older, I saw poor posture as just part of my body:
- My hips and stomach stuck out a bit.
- My shoulders slouched.
- I had a tiny camel hump where my spine connected to my neck.
This is just how you are the doctors would say.
People told me just to accept who I am.
And sure, why not, it's not like bad posture is lethal.
But then, as I got older...
My knees started to ache.
My back got sore.
My shoulders got really stiff.
And those small aches kept growing and growing...
First, I hurt my shoulder. Which lasted for a few days.
Then, I hurt my back. Which lasted for a week.
Then one day, while lifting, my knee snapped.
I fell down, clutching my knee in pain.
I was so overwhelmed. What can I do?
So I just hopped back to my car on one leg.
And for months afterwards, I couldn't even walk.
That's when I knew I had to change something.
This can't just be me
So I started to study...
I had been a trainer for years, but all my focus was on how to exercise better.
I really knew nothing about joint alignment or soft-tissue or bio-mechanics or how to bring everything together to have a strong, healthy body.
And that's when a whole new world of possibilities opened up.
What I discovered:
The doctors were wrong.
Our posture is not fixed in stone.
This is not just "How I am"
The hump right below my neck was "not part of me".
All my physical problems had really simple fixes. It was just a matter of following the right protocols that strengthened and stretched very specific muscle groups.
I couldn't believe how simple it all was...
The same for my slouched shoulders, and my butt that stuck out and my gut that spilled over.
I didn't have "weak knees", I just had a joint alignment issue.
It's just so outrageous that we've been telling people "this is how you are".
Imagine if we did that with cars:
Oh your tires are misaligned?
That's just how your car is, I guess you'll have to live with it.
No! You just re-align the tires and get done with it! It's not terminal...
I discovered that there are specific protocols that you can follow to correct all those postural problems.
Afterwards, I was totally amazed to see how quickly my "camel hump" disappeared and my upper back got straight.
How my hips could align perfectly and my stomach would stop spilling over.
All from the right posture correction protocols.
Within months, my knee pain disappeared.
I stopped having back pain.
I was able to run and lift heavy again.
But, the biggest breakthrough came at the end
You see, for years I would lose fat to the point where my Abs would show, yet I wouldn't look completely "fit"
Even when I weighed 166lbs at 6'3 my gut would still stick out.
Can you imagine that?
That's when I discovered that this is all caused by Anterior Pelvic Tilt.
It's the same thing that was causing my knee pain, my back pain, and my butt sticking out.
Turns out that the majority of people today have some degree Anterior Pelvic Tilt.
And what is the big cause of all this?
Sitting.
All the hours of sitting was messing up my hip alignment, and since I wasn't even aware of it, I never corrected it.
So it kept getting worse and worse until it blew out my knee...
Anterior Pelvic Tilt is really the bad guy behind most joint pains and posture problems " which is really sad considering how easy it is to fix it.
What about today?
Well, I still spend hours and hours sitting for my work, but I take a few minutes everyday to do my Anterior Pelvic Tilt protocol to make sure I have perfect posture, and I've never been healthier.
You see the question to is not:
"Do I have Anterior Pelvic Tilt or not?
The right question to ask is:
"How MUCH Anterior Pelvic Tilt do I have?
The good news is that the more Anterior Pelvic Tilt you have, the more dramatic will be the benefits from correcting it.
And the 30lbs "trick?
Here's another thing...
You can lose as much fat you want, but if you don't fix your Anterior Pelvic Tilt, you will still unfortunately "look fat".
This is exactly what happened to me
It's where the term "Skinny-fat" comes from.
You see, I've always been puzzled by people who weighed more than me, yet somehow "looked fitter".
People say "It's genetics" or "They carry it well".
The big discovery is that those people who "carry it well", do so because they have properly aligned their hips and fixed their posture!
If you are in the position that I was in when I first started " overweight and almost obese:
Then eliminating anterior pelvic tilt and fixing your hip alignment can easily make you Look 30lbs lighter.
Even when your weight hasn't changed at all.
And you'll look even better and better as you get fitter and lose more weight.
In fact, you can shoot your very own "before/after pictures WITHIN MINUTES, just by tilting your pelvis and you will look 30lbs lighter, immediately.
Take a look how insane this posture adjustment is:
So the next question is, how do we fix APT and Anterior Pelvic Tilt?
